The Golden Islands
The islands of Hyères, also known as the Golden Islands. The archipelago of the islands of Hyères is the extreme southern tip of Provence. It consists of three islands: Porquerolles, Port-Cros, Le Levant. The Golden Islands present a very complete variety of Mediterranean landscapes ranging from scrubland to fertile and cultivable plains. True gardens in the sea, these islands offer exceptional water purity and underwater backgrounds rich in colors.
Port-Cros
Porquerolles
Le Levant
Located to the east of the archipelago of the Hyères islands, the Île du Levant stretches over 8 km. 2 km wide, it culminates at 140 m. Almost 80% of its territory is occupied by the Mediterranean Test Center. It is separated from Port-Cros by the Passe des Grottes, one kilometer wide. The island is covered with abundant vegetation and its strawberry trees are among the most beautiful in all of Mediterranean Europe.
Port-Cros Porquerolles
Port-Cros is the wildest, most preserved of the Golden Islands. It is the heart of one of France’s first national parks, created in 1963, which has managed to preserve a maritime and terrestrial environment of exceptional wealth and quality.
With 54 km of trails, Porquerolles is the largest of the three islands. Located furthest to the west, facing the Giens peninsula, this Mediterranean paradise stretches over 7 km long and 2.5 km wide. Porquerolles stands out for the variety of its landscapes. Between the Pointe des Mèdes and the Langoustier, one after another, vertiginous cliffs and small coves sheltered from the wind. On the northern coast, stretch some of the most beautiful beaches of the Côte d’Azur (Notre Dame, la Courtade, Plage d’Argent and Plage du Langoustier).
